SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

BACKGROUND
Voices Radio is a team activity and draws its strength from the collaborative efforts of its authors and staff. Every link in the chain contributes to our collective success in the marketplace.

We greatly appreciate the time and energy that authors give to their work, and we invest substantial resources to respect their effort. In return, we ask that you follow our submission guidelines precisely as they are intended to simplify and expedite the process for both the authors and staff. We want every author to be reviewed as quickly as possible; we can only make that happen through your cooperation. If you do not follow these instructions, it is very likely that your submission will not be reviewed.

Finally, please do not contact us to check on the status of your submissions. Due to the large volume of work that we receive, we cannot track them individually.

THE BASICS – PART I:

Your submission must be . . .

  1. Yours.
  2. Edited.
  3. Complete.

THE BASICS – PART II:

Your submission must be . . .

  1. In DOC, PDF, or TXT format. (RTF format is often problematic.)
  2. Sent as an attachment, not in the body of the e-mail.
  3. Formatted to fit neatly and efficiently on 8.5” x 11” paper.
  4. Limited to 10 pages, excluding a synopsis for longer works.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We are actively looking for new, emerging, and established writers in a wide variety of genres and gratefully accept all types of submissions:

  1. Fiction
    • Novels
    • Literary
    • Short Stories
    • Other sub-genres including thrillers, mysteries, children's, romance, women's fiction, ethnic, science fiction, fantasy and general fiction.

  2. Non-Fiction
    • Adventure, biography, current affairs, true crime, memoir and pop-culture are accepted but the work MUST have a strong literary / narrative element.
    • Cookbooks, health, new age, psychology, scholarly works, science, spirituality, and trade publications are not accepted.

  3. Screenplays
  4. Stageplays
  5. Spoken word
  6. Audio performances in MP3 format.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:

All submissions meeting the guidelines listed above should be packaged as follows:

  1. Click on the link below or type the address into your e-mail program: submissions@voicesradio.com
  2. The body of the e-mail should contain your name and contact information; you may include a synopsis of the submission if the complete work exceeds 10 pages.
  3. Biographical information is not necessary, although you are welcome to include brief highlights, accomplishments, and contributions.
  4. Attach the submission as detailed above, and click “Send”.
  5. Repeat these steps for each submission. (Please limit yourself to two submissions if possible; poetry is an exception to this rule.)
If your submission is not in a format that can be e-mailed, or you have difficulty in accessing or using e-mail, you may deliver them to or drop them off at our office in New York City. However, they must still meet the other relevant guidelines as listed above, plus the following additional guidelines:
  1. Do not request delivery or drop off for a submission that can otherwise be e-mailed.
  2. Do not bind your submissions. We prefer rubber bands, paper clips, binder clips, folders, etc
  3. E-mail us for the address and additional instructions: questions@voicesradio.com

WHAT TO EXPECT IF SELECTED

We bring selected writers into the recording studio to read and perform their own work, as well as explore and/or give context to the work (and their own experiences) through an interview / dialog format. All this is edited down and packaged into a 30min or 60min show. It will then be posted online in MP3 format and available for Podcasting, as well as included in our broadcast schedule as it is established.

WHAT ELSE?

Thank you for considering Voices. We look forward to reading your work.
